The Voice BRITAIN NEEDS JAZZING UP “BLACK people in Britain are not as exposed to jazz music as black people in the United States,” says Darryl Louis Morgan, the composer of the score to American theatre piece Diary of Black Men which recently toured Britain. “We know jazz as America’s only truly original art form. We grow up with our parents playing it for us, and naturally we as musicians tend to start off playing jazz ourselves. “Rap and stuff like that might be popular now, but in the future you will see more and more blacks turning back to jazz as a natural way to express themselves.” The album of Diary of Black Men by Darryl Louis Morgan is available at Headstart, New Beacon and Grass Roots book shops in London.
